The Anthems And Songs For Brazil’s World Cup Are Coming

The FIFA World Cup is a source of joy and passion for fans and players with festivities and energy pumping throughout the entire world for one short period every four years. In the days, weeks and months leading up to a World Cup the excitement is everywhere, including in the world of music.

Always one of the ways human cultures have showcased their alegria, the marriage of song and soccer is a natural one. Huge banging anthems have greeted fans and served as a rallying cry for World Cup patrons everywhere. While FIFA does oversee the release of an “Official Anthem”, such as Ricky Martin’s unforgettable “La Copa de la Vida (The Cup of Life)” from the 1998 World Cup in France, there are always other songs that come to be associated with the global event as well, for example in the 2010 South African World Cup there were two official anthems – R. Kelly’s “Sign of a Victory” and the more popular “Waka Waka” by Shakira, but it was another song that stole the show: Somali-Canadian rapper K’naan’s “Wavin Flag” which is still actually stuck in our heads.

The 2014 FIFA World Cup Official Anthem

Brazil is a very musical nation, birthing both the musical genres of Samba and Bossa Nova, however for the 2014 FIFA World Cup in Brazil, the official anthem will be performed by American artists Pitbull (of course, he’s everywhere!), Jennifer Lopez and Brazilian singer Claudia Leitte. The song, which was actually revealed months ago performed by other artists is named “We Are One (Ole Ola)” is sure to be a smash hit and heard everywhere.

That said, only time will tell if it is the song that people come to associate with the 2014 FIFA World Cup. Perhaps it will be another pop dance favorite by Brazlian singer Michel Telo, or perhaps it will be a song from the newly released albums by Beyonce or Lorde? There is no real way to tell as of right now what will be the song on everyone’s lips come June, however one thing is for sure: music will be a big part of the 2014 FIFA World Cup in Brazil.
